Released on January 3rd, 2020

The January 2020 update to DocuSign includes new features related to bulk close external accounts, and addresses coming-soon features and bug fixes.

Note: Some features and options are supported only in certain DocuSign plans. Your account plan might not support some options in these Release Notes. For information about which options are available for your account, check your account plan or contact your Account Manager.

Admin/Org Admin

DocuSign Admin Release as of December 9, 2019

Features: Bulk Close External Accounts

Org Administrators can now quickly and efficiently bulk close employee memberships to accounts that are not linked to the organization. This ensures agreements are only created from company-managed accounts.

  • This is available on the Bulk Actions page in Org Admin.
  • Bulk Close actions are logged on the Bulk Actions Activities Tab.
  • This feature requires the Org Admin permission profile.

  • If an account is linked to an organization, the organization name and ID is now displayed on the Account Profile page in eSignature Admin.
  • For Org Administrators, the “Go to Admin” menu item in the eSignature application now directs users to the eSignature Admin home page for the account.

For more information on new features and enhancements, see the Admin Release Notes at: https://

21 CFR Part 11

Default Signing Reason

Admins can now designate a frequently used signing reason as the account-wide default for Part 11 documents and signatures. This helps reduce the number of Part 11 signing clicks and streamlines the signer experience.

Available in Part 11 Module Add-on with advanced branding capabilities. To configure your default signing reason and more info, see

Create Recipient View Link

This communication is regarding a change to the url returned by the Create Recipient View API endpoint that rolled out to Demo as of the end of September, and is targeted for slow rollout in Prod early January 2020.

  • What will change? Customers can expect to see the length of the URL to be longer. Customers can expect to be redirected through a different subdomain depending on region of the account sending the envelope. Please verify your domain whitelist per the following documentation: whitelists
  • What will not change? DocuSign has designed this change so that your existing functionality should not change.
  • Why is DocuSign making this change? These changes are part of an effort to standardize and further secure links that redirect into Signing Ceremony. DocuSign is working to centralize the system used for authentication across all its products. These new links provide improved security compared to the current system. These changes will provide the ability to expire, revoke, or modify an existing link without changing it. They also make secret links harder to brute force or to guess. They provide improved auditing on redemption and better ability to enforce authentication policies such as two-step verification. Redemption refers to what happens when the link is used. A token is created via the Create Recipient View Link API request, and then used/redeemed when the link is visited in the browser.

These changes began rolling out the week of Aug 26th.

  • Demo environment - Feature is now ON in Demo as of the end of September.
  • Prod environment - Feature is targeted for slow rollout in early January 2020.

Coming Soon

Template List Performance Improvements for IE

DocuSign will be updating the template list to be in line with the envelope list. Updates will be made to the menu for the folder items and structure.

Download Email Improvements

Users will be taken to a download section upon clicking the Download link from an email. From the link, users are immediately taken to the download section inside Reporting. Users can see up to 90 days worth of scheduled reports. Once the View button is clicked, the CSV file downloads.

DocuSign eWitness DocuSign

eWitness allows organizations to enable signers to identify up to two witnesses to sign an agreement in a legal and confidential manner. eWitness captures the witness information in the Certificate of Completion to support any legal disputes. This means many of the typically paperbased deeds can be digitized in the future, saving organization significant time and money. This feature is available for Enterprise Pro customers. If you are not an Enterprise Pro customer, please ask your Account Manager to enable this feature.

Enable Clients to Enforce Uploading a Signature

During January DocuSign will be releasing a new feature to enable clients to enforce uploading a signature (instead of allowing them to pick one of the default ones or draw a signature).

It will be enabled from a RADmin checkbox ("Allow senders to require signers to upload a new image to sign or initial") in the Sending Settings. The checkbox will be OFF by default, so clients will not see it.

The feature will be activated during the Prepare phase under the Advanced Settings tab.

Branding Language Experience Improvement Administrators

can select a subset of languages for a brand:

  • Add a setting to allow admin to choose branding languages from the 44 signing languages, prepopulated
  • Set as many languages as possible
  • Edit and save the the setting or cancel the operation

Administrators can select a default brand language:

  • Indicate which languages from the selected is the default branding language (if the signer does not have any languages listed as branding languages, the signer can receive the default language instead)
  • Edit and save the the setting or cancel the operation

Important Notes: This enhancement will not impact how the current resource file is setup for the customers. Customers do not need to change anything. Customers can choose which languages for branding from the new UI. Brand can be set up in Demo. Once the language selection feature is available in production, they can choose the languages with the brand set up in Demo.

This is currently being ramped up in Production.

  • When adding an account membership for a new or existing user, the list of accounts is now alphabetized in Org Admin.
  • The Bulk Actions Activity Log displays the correct information in the Summary column for Bulk User Update actions.
