Amazon RDS June Update

Released on June 22nd, 2020

Amazon RDS on VMware Adds Support for Read Replica

To provide enhanced performance and scalability, Amazon RDS on VMware adds support for read replicas for MySQL and PostgreSQL databases. You can create read replicas of a source DB instance to serve high-volume application read traffic, thereby increasing aggregate read throughput. A read replica can also be promoted to become a standalone DB instance if the source DB instance fails.

RDS on VMware read replicas are available to all RDS on VMware customers running PostgreSQL versions 10.9 and 10.10, and MySQL version 5.7. See the RDS on VMware User Guide for more details.

You can now use the Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) Data API and Amazon RDS Query editor for Amazon Aurora Serverless with PostgreSQL compatibility in the EU (Frankfurt) region.

The Data API enables you to invoke SQL commands against an Aurora Serverless database through an HTTPS API endpoint. To see all the regions in which Data API is available and to get started, refer our documentation. You can learn about building Serverless applications on Aurora Serverless using Data API in our 10-minute tutorial.

The Amazon RDS Query Editor provides an easy way for admins and developers to run SQL queries without having to install and set up an external JDBC/ODBC client. Query results are instantly visible within the Amazon RDS Management Console.

Refer the Aurora Serverless product page and Aurora documentation for more information on Aurora Serverless.
