Using the HTTPS Protocol With wMobile

by Andrei Voiculescu on August 8, 2018

One of the most important steps in network communication security nowadays is represented by the encryption of the communication protocol between server and client. In HTTPS, the communication protocol is encrypted using TLS (Transport Layer Security) or SSL (Secure Socket Layer).

wMobile does not require HTTPS to run but this is recommended. In order to enable the secure communication protocol for accessing wMobile the administrator must issue or obtain an appropriate certificate.

Here are some steps for creating CSR and installing SSL certificate in IIS. This article addresses IIS7 but is pretty similar to other newer versions.

Once the certificate is installed, it should appear in IIS under Server Certificates.

The next step is to configure the binding. Choose the site that you want to secure and click Bindings on the right actions panel.

Fill out the information in the add site binding window. In the type drop-down choose https. Set the IP address to the IP address of the site or choose all unassigned. The port for SSL traffic is usually 443. Enter the recently imported certificate in the SSL Certificate field.

After all these steps, the web application should now be reached under HTTPS, as it shows on our wMobile demo page.
