Data Validation in wMobile for GoldMine

The "Allow blank input" and "Force valid input" field settings are used for all the lookup fields in the application (Contact, Cases, Opportunities, Projects). The type of the field (data type) must be character or numeric, date/time is not included. These settings are configured in GoldMine and can be used both simultaneously and separately.

In this blog post, we will use a lookup field (‘Title’ field) from Contacts, but the same configuration is applied for any lookup field from the application.

  • Search a contact in GoldMine and open it
  • Select the value for the ‘Title’ field and click on the arrow to open the dialog lookup field list and
  • Click on ‘Setup’
  • Uncheck ‘Allow blank input’
  • Check ‘Force valid input’

After these configurations are set, in wMobile for GoldMine: Phone, near the pencil icon is a question mark that describes the field requirements:

If the user tries to leave the field empty, then a warning message appears:

If the user tries to insert an invalid value, then a warning message appears above the field and displays the lookup list:

In wMobile for GoldMine: Desktop, here is how the field is highlighted:

These visual cues should help users when creating and updating contact records.

The functionality described in this blog post applies to wMobile for GoldMine 4.1 and above.
