Activity Notifications in SugarCRM

We all know that feeling of excitement when we see a new notification at the top of our social media feed. Like this:

Now imagine this same concept within your Sugar instance. While Sugar has a notification center already built in, it doesn’t work the same way as your social media notifications do. Sugar’s notification center alerts you when there is something wrong with your Sugar instance (such as a disconnect from your server) or a configuration change has successfully taken place

While these types of alerts are important, they are more relevant to an admin than other users.  One of our customers who heavily uses the Activity Stream wanted their users to receive notifications when they were tagged in the Activity Stream. To do this, we added to the functionality of the current notification center so that users would be sent notifications when they were tagged in any module’s Activity Stream.

In the above image, you can see that the Admin user has over four notifications, which were created by being tagged in several different activities within the stream using the @ symbol (similar to tagging on Twitter). This simple customization has huge benefit for users by keeping them in the know without having to look at their Activity Stream Dashlet. They receive instant notifications without ever leaving Sugar, making sure that everyone is always alerted about new conversations they are involved in.
